Resurfacing of the A338 - Winter 2015/16

Update 2013

Dorset County Council have commenced feasibility studies on local roads to ease the current traffic congestion. The following six items are the priority for the Christchurch Borough.

Improvements to the B3073 including a 3rd lane for buses and coaches with traffic lights at the Airport entrance junction.

A gyratory system to replace the traffic lights at Parley Cross.

A revamp, including traffic lights, at the Chapel Gate roundabout.

A short bypass to the south of Hurn to replace the road across the small bridge and the existing roundabout.

A second bridge across the A338 at Blackwater next to and parallel with the existing one.

An additional lane in each direction on the A338 between Blackwater interchange and Cooper Dean.

Total cost is estimated at £63 million hoping to start work in 2016 and finish in 2021 with some hope of starting elements of the programme early.
