Your Residents Association Needs You

Following the resignation of a couple of Committee members and the announcement of the current Chairman’s intention to step down at the end of the year means we need to recruit new members to help drive the residents' association forward. If you are interested, please email ‘enquiries@wcresidents.co.uk’ and let us know what you feel you can offer the residents of Jumpers and St Catherine’s.

The blueprint for land use across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is in development. Currently, there are three Local Plans (one for each separate area), inherited from preceding councils. The creation of one Local Plan for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is essential, and will mean future developments can be planned in a sustainable way. Cabinet will be asked to approve. Public consultation will take place for an 8-week period, commencing this summer.

‘Regrettably, we still have a significant number of waste collection staff absent in addition to vacancies. We've been unable to attract and retain agency workers to fulfil these roles which means that unfortunately, the suspension of garden waste collections will need to continue up to and including Friday 20 August 2021. This decision affects all garden waste collections in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. The four week suspension means that you will miss two collections. We are now considering the options for how to make up for these missed collections and we will communicate this to you in due course (our customer service team has no further information to provide at this time so we ask that you please await further communications by email). During this time, please remember that garden waste can still be taken to our Recycling Centres across the three towns for disposal. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank you for remaining patient.’

Plans are underway to achieve Coach Friendly Status for the Saxon town of Christchurch. A preliminary audit of the town took place at a meeting on Tuesday (27 July), attended by John Burch of the Confederation of Passenger Transport, Cllr Mike Greene and John McVey of BCP Council, David Squire, Chair of the Destination Management Board and Tim Lloyd and Sue Harmon-Smith of the Christchurch Chamber of Trade and Commerce. Works will now begin, following recommendations from Mr Burch, to facilitate the plans. A further inspection later on will determine the outcome.

From autumn 2021 BCP Council Customer Services will be accessible in Christchurch library alongside the library services. To allow for safe building adaptations and fit out, we will need to temporarily close the library from 12 July. It will reopen by the end of August. You are welcome to borrow extra books before the library closes, and can borrow and return from any other library in BCP. Christchurch library will be offering an Order & Collect and reservations service throughout the closure period - Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri 9.30am-1pm & 2-5pm, Wed & Sat 9.30am-1pm.

Green spaces across our conurbation are benefiting from an increase in biodiversity due to the change in grass management. Bee Orchids which had previously been lying dormant for years, have now been spotted in Christchurch and across Poole, while the Pyramidal Orchid has also been seen in various locations

The Parks Foundation are excited to be streaming a nesting Little Egret on their wildlife cameras at Hengistbury Head. The Little Egret is a small white heron with attractive white plumes on its chest. Two eggs have just hatched with the third expected to take place any day now.
 

As part of BCP’s annual canvass you may receive an email asking you to confirm your household details for the electoral register. Where they hold email addresses for electors, they will be sending emails from 'BCP Council Electoral Services’ via the GOV.Notify service. If you have received an email entitled ‘Act now so BCP Council can check who is eligible to be registered to vote at your address’ this email is genuine. It will include your security codes and next steps.

Development of the hospital is ongoing with the development of a new Emergency department. The next phase will include erecting hoardings that will surround the site during building works which begins in August, meaning the main entrance will be closed from 2 August. Throughout September, fencing and hoarding will be erected to create the site compound with new vehicle and pedestrian travel routes in place by the middle of September. Keep an eye on the hospital website for our updated hospital map together with the latest site access arrangements.

Have you or your child been asked to self-isolate? There is a £500 support payment available if you are self-isolating or have caring responsibility for a child who is self-isolating due to COVID-19. This scheme, which is for those on low incomes is open until 30 September 2021.

Christchurch Carnival is returning for another wonderful event this summer. Join us for some long awaited carnival fun on the Quay, 14th & 15th August 2021.

The Christchurch Carnival Committee have been around for more than 100 years. Each year they organize a fun weekend for all the family. This includes a series of displays and fun activities on the quay, as well as music, events, a funfair and to round off an impressive and free fireworks display in the evening.

Come and join in the fun for free, please bring along your loose change and donate to help us to raise valuable funds for our Christchurch charities.
