Christchurch Town Council launch Neighbourhood Plan Scoping survey

CHRISTCHURCH Town Council is asking for the opinions of its residents on what should be brought into focus following the launch of its Neighbourhood Plan Scoping Survey. The Town Council applied to BCP Council to designate the whole of the parish and town and this has been agreed.

The next step is to start the Neighbourhood Plan journey, and the Town Council say that consultation will be the first step. Chairman of the Town Council’s Planning Committee Cllr David Jones said: “This is a fantastic milestone for the Town Council and its residents and businesses. “This consultation utilises a unique power for Town Councils where our communities can truly have a say about the vision and future for Christchurch.

The Council really does want to know what is important to our residents and what they want to see happening in our town. We truly want to give Christchurch back its voice”.

Neighbourhood Planning allows a local community and its residents, businesses, and visitors to have a say in shaping the space around them. It is a way for local communities to shape the plan policies which are relevant to them.

Importantly, the Plan will be factored into planning application decisions made by BCP Council.

The survey is available online at christchurchplan.uk and at surveymonkey.co.uk/r/CNP-Survey1.

Hard copies of the survey are available at Town Common News on Fairmile, and on request to the Town Clerk townclerk@christchurch-tc.gov.uk, and is open until March 15,2021.

COVID-19 vaccinations in Dorset

Many of you will want to know when and where you will be able to get your vaccination. Our NHS is working extremely hard to deliver the COVID-19 vaccination to the most vulnerable local people across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
If you ar
e under 70 the NHS will get in touch when it’s your turn to be vaccinated. Please be patient and do not contact your GP practice or hospital to request a vaccine.

People aged 70 or older in England who have not yet had their coronavirus vaccine but would like to are being asked to contact the NHS. A national booking system can be accessed online or people can call 119 free of change between 7am and 11pm.

Coming on Sunday 21 March

The census is a survey that happens every 10 years and gives us a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales. This helps to plan and fund public services in your area. By taking part in the census, you’ll help make sure your community gets the services it needs.

Want to be a part of shaping your local area by making sure the census is successful and runs smoothly?

BCP have launched their Vision and Budget for 2021/2022

An ambitious vision for the future of the BCP area is being considered alongside the proposed 2021/22 budget. As the tenth-largest urban authority in England, BCP Council is putting plans in place to ensure our city region emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic stronger, braver and ready for a bright and prosperous future.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Drew Mellor, explains: “Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is the UK’s newest city region and it’s brimming with prospects, positivity and pride. We have it all right here: amazing culture and heritage alongside innovation, vibrant town centres and bustling community villages, countryside and coastline. We want to harness the potential of our coastline of opportunity and make BCP a place where people and businesses want to be – because of the vibrancy of our communities, the strength of our economy, the skills of our people, the wealth of our culture and the quality of our infrastructure, our environment and quality of life.” He added: “To do that, we have developed a Big Plan, with five big projects to deliver big and positive changes for our whole area. To help us deliver this level of ambition we are proposing to create a £50m Futures Fund to invest in infrastructure to help make our aspirations a reality.”

Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Economy and Strategic Planning, Cllr Phil Broadhead, said: “The five big projects we are proposing will collectively demonstrate our vision and aspirations. They are a statement of intent that we will turn into reality. The five themes are creating an iconic cityscape, ongoing investment in our seafront, delivering on our promise to rejuvenate Poole, investing in our physical and digital infrastructure and acting at scale, as we aim to deliver more than 15,000 homes for people of all incomes, generate £3 billion of investment value in our communities and support the creation of 13,000 new jobs.”

Cllr Broadhead added: “Taking our vision and Big Plan to Full Council is just the first step. I am looking forward to sharing more detailed plans as they are developed, once the vision receives the endorsement and backing of Full Council and the Futures Fund can be swiftly established and put to work.”

Overall Crime Continues To Drop For Dorset Police

Dorset Police has seen a 6.1 per cent drop in recorded crime, according to new figures released on Wednesday 3 February 2021.

Data released by the Office for National Statistics, shows the Force has continued to see a drop in overall crime for the third consecutive quarter.

In early 2020 Dorset Police received a ‘Good’ grading from Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) for accurate crime recording, which means the reduction of 6.1 per cent during the 12 months to the end of September 2020 is a real reduction, and gives us the ninth lowest crime rate in England and Wales.

A reduction within some crime types has very likely been impacted by COVID-19 and national restrictions requiring people to stay home during the first lockdown. Even with some crime returning to expected levels during the summer months, the overall reduction enabled the Force to proactively focus on the crimes that affect the most vulnerable members of our communities, such as domestic abuse, child sexual exploitation and county lines.

Deputy Chief Constable Scott Chilton said Dorset remains one of the safest counties in the country to live and visit.

The Stour Valley Park proposal

The Stour Valley Park is a visionary project that is proposing to create amazing places for people and a landscape for the common good.

Stretching along 25km of the lower River Stour, from the Kingston Lacy estate to Hengistbury Head on the coast, this park will become a fantastic shared resource for generations to come.

Your help is needed to shape the park and make it into a landscape where people and nature thrive. We're running some

Climate action: what matters most to you?

On 16 July 2019, we declared a climate and ecological emergency. We are committed to making our operations carbon neutral (not adding to the gases in the atmosphere that are warming the planet) by 2030. We have also committed to work with partners towards a date when the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area can be made carbon neutral, ahead of the UK target of 2050.

So become a part of the 2050 Climate Action Plan conversation and have your say on the climate and ecological future of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole by completing our survey
before Monday 1 March.

Run for the British Heart Foundation

In line with government advice, the decision has been made to cancel the 2021 Health-on-Line Bournemouth Bay Run. The newly sponsored AXA Health Bournemouth Bay Run will take place next year on 3 April 2022 and runners' places will be automatically deferred to that date.

Although we can't gather together to run we still want to keep the community spirit alive. So we encourage you to raise money for the British Heart Foundation by running either a 5K, 10K or Half Marathon and submit your times regardless of where you are.

Everyone who takes part has the chance to win one of two Garmin watches and if you raise £60 for BHF’s 60th Birthday you'll receive a BHF running t-shirt. Just run your distance between now and 28 March 2021 and enter your race time on our online form. Good luck to everyone running and supporting our different Bay Run this year.
