Don’t Forget That Meeting

Thursday 27th October at 7.30pm in The Hall On The Hill, Marlow Drive. David McIntosh, the new Chief Executive of the amalgamated CBC-East Dorset administrations, together with other officers and councillors will be there to answer your questions.

If our collectors didn’t manage to find you at home and you would like to renew your membership we’ll have somebody there to enrol you.

Your Opinion Required

A developer wants to build a supermarket and riverside complex at Bailey Bridge. The details are at www.wcresidents.co.uk where you’ll find how to register your opinion. This follows hot on the heels of the plan to build a Morrisons at the corner of Stony Lane and Bridge Street. It’s not entirely clear to us why we need more supermarkets when the need is for low cost housing.

Goings On at the Airport

The redevelopment remains on schedule and is nearly complete. A covered walkway is planned linking Arrivals and Departures. The unpopular £2.50 blanket access charge is raising revenue.

The frequency of operation of the shuttle bus will not be increased until the number of flights increases. Efforts are being made to set up flights to South Africa, Australia and The Middle East. The Olympic Games is expected to cause an increase in traffic related to executive jets

The size of the Industrial Estate is to be significantly increased. Whilst there are plans to improvement the local roads we are not aware of any allocated funds

More Transport

We grew tired of waiting for the bus shelter on Fairmile Road, opposite Albion Road to be re-erected and contacted a group called Bournemouth Area Transport Action Group. They made representation on our behalf to CBC and we now have a commitment that the shelter will be replaced before the end of October. Don’t place any bets on that!

Another Snow Job

We previously told you about CBC and their legal opinion on residents clearing snow from their garden path and the pavement in front of their house. CBC has revised its position, which is now slightly more complex. Rather than summarise it we suggest you read it for yourself at www.wcresidents.co.uk

Dorset Police

In case you missed it (and it was hardly shouted from the rooftops) Dorset Police have switched to phone number 101 for NON-URGENT calls (it’s still 999 for genuine emergencies)
