Positive Attitudes - at the Airport

Our public meeting on 24th February was well attended. We heard a cautious but positive presentation by Bournemouth Airport. They really are a bellwether for our locality and they remain convinced that their huge investment in new facilities will pay off – good news for all of us.

One fact that really surprised everybody present was that of a £750 airfare around £400 is UK tax! The way round that is to fly from the UK to a European hub such as Amsterdam, paying very little tax, and then fly on from there. For this reason the Airport are looking to increase their traffic with the main European centres.

-          And closer to home

We ourselves have now fully recovered from the trauma of February.

Your committee has been strengthened and we have three new collectors – but still need more. The Localism Bill now progressing through Parliament is likely to increase the potential importance of well organised Residents Associations and through them the influence of residents upon local affairs.

Please, if you feel you could devote a small number of hours on summer evenings to collecting just £1 from your neighbours whilst chatting about local issues do get in touch with us.

A Transformation

The website at www.wcresidents.co.uk has been transformed and is now completely up to date.

Look in the side panel to your right for a synopsis

Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals

On the website there’s a link to Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospital consultation on their 2011-12 plan. If you want to make your voice heard on that one - go and tell them what you think. Phone calls are not enough!

The New Website

www.wcresidents.co.uk

We’ve provided under “Council Affairs” a commentary on the progress of the merger of the Christchurch and East Dorset Council’s administrations plus a summary of the 2010 Christchurch Monitoring Report.

Also look there to find: the latest on Dorset Council’s Icelandic deposit (remember that?); details of the Dorset Transport Strategy consultation; our negotiating stance as far as the trees on St Catherine’s Hill are concerned ; and of course the latest minutes of our monthly management meeting which will give you a snapshot of local affairs - including what we are doing about ARC and the trees that were felled at the back of the hill.

Elsewhere you can find for those who enjoy these things our response to the Transport Strategy consultation and a commentary on the CBC budget in 2011-12.
